Det er det fjerde symfoniske jazzværk fra hans nodeblad, og jeg har været så heldig at være til stede til premieren på to af de tidligere værker. At sidde i en kirke eller koncertsal og følge musikkens veje er bjergtagende. Så koncentreret og fokuseret og dog så åben og storladen. Oplevelsen bliver siddende under huden længe.

One might be tempted to believe that intimacy in a jazz concert relies on closeness and the visible exchange of glances among musicians in the development of the music and their exploratory improvisational contributions to the melody. But intimacy can easily take place, even when there is both a big band, choir, and the percussionist's massive array of instruments on stage. From a soloist's cautious, intensifying inquiry to the choir's or big band's responses, and finally, an interweaving of tones from the orchestra, percussionist, and choir. That's how closeness between the music and the audience can be built.
In the current piece, Jakob Buchanan explores, based on Thomas' poetry, the possibilities of existence, stretched between transience, trouble, and the danger of disappearance. The music expresses a melancholic yearning for what could be and is not yet visible.
SONG & WIND is unique, yet another contribution from the master of symphonic jazz, Jakob Buchanan, to the meaningfulness of life.
