The past months have been busy for OUR Recordings with recordings, preparation for recordings, marketing, and music industry conferences. I attended the annual IAMA Conference in Bruges and Classical Next in Berlin. Both conferences were very exciting and rewarding. I met old friends, colleagues, and new wonderful people, and the topics chosen for sessions and panel discussions were both relevant and informative, and the speakers were highly competent. At both conferences, Artificial Intelligence (AI) had a significant and justified presence. If we, as the music industry, do not engage in providing content for training the robots, the Tech giants will decide, and we will be sidelined.

The symphonic rock music of the 1960s and 1970s aspired to great things and often drew upon classical tropes, particularly those suggesting the gravitas of J.S. Bach, sometimes using direct Bach quote, while at others, as in Penny Lane by The Beatles, suggesting the sound of the Baroque masters.

In this newsletter from OUR Recordings, I will provide updates on some of the reactions to our recent releases, as well as briefly information of upcoming releases in the next few months.

As I mentioned in the latest newsletter, the album Vingt Regards sur L'enfant Jesus with pianist Kristoffer Hyldig was named Album of the Year by journalist Thomas Michelsen in the Danish newspaper Politiken. On Politiken’s list of the 10 best albums 2023 was also clarinetist Jonas Frølund’s debut album SOLO ALONE AND MORE, which has also received fantastic attention and reviews worldwide.

Vingt Regards sur L’enfant Jesus also received the Danish P2 Prize (Danish Music Award), and in March, it was listed as one of the best releases of 2023 in the German magazine Klassik Heute.

Composer and pianist Morten Jessen reached out to me last year with his composition KYIV, a 4 movement work for violin and piano, he wrote shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine. Morten had made contact with the Ukrainian violinist Natalia Gordeyeva, who had fled from Ukraine and now lives in Denmark, and they had begun a collaboration to raise awareness about Putin's insane war against Ukraine through music, and at the same time, to igniti a hope that is so important in the world`s current situation.

OUR Recordings' latest release, UPHEAVAL, featuring music by 4 female composers for cello and piano performed by Janne Fredens and Søren Rastogi, has received a very positive reception worldwide. This week, the release is the CD OF THE WEEK on Danish National Radio's classical channel P2, and Bayerischer Rundfunk had an enthusiastic presentation.
