Marcus Creed

Conductor

Marcus Creed was born and raised on the south coast of England. He began his studies at King’s College in Cambridge, where he had the opportunity to sing in the famed King’s College Choir.

Further studies took him to Christ Church in Oxford and the Guildhall School in London. Since 1977, when Creed moved to Germany, he has been very active on the German scene, working with the Deutsche Oper, Hochschule der Künste, as well as the Gruppe Neue Musik and the Scharoun Ensemble, artistic director of the award winning RIAS Chamber Choir, and professor of conducting at the Musikhochschule in Cologne.

Since 2003, Marcus Creed has been artistic director of the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart. Marcus Creed has been a regular guest at international festivals of ancient and contemporary music. Many of his CD releases have been awarded international prizes including the Edison Award, the Diapason d’Or and the Cannes Classical Award (ICMA) and multiple ECHO Klassik Awards for their stylistic sensitivity and thrilling sound.

Since 2014 he has been the chief conductor of the Danish National Vocal Ensemble.
