Jesper Sivebæk completed his studies under the guidance of Jørgen Bjørslev (The Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark) Professor Per Olof Johnson (Malmö Academy of Music, Sweden) and Professor Alvaro Pierri (UQAM in Montreal, Canada)
Furthermore he has participated in masterclasses with ao Julian Bream, John Williams and the great spanish pianist Alicia de Larocha.
He has since 2007 been associated professor and head of the classical guitar department at The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
Apart from guitar he also play banjo, electric guitar, double bass Guitar and mandolin.
Honours and awards
· Tarrega award at the 23th international Francisco Tarrega Guitar Competition in Benicasim, Spain.
· 2nd place at the Concours International de Guitarre in Carpentras, France.
· 3rd place at the Incontri Chitarristici di Gargnano in Gargnano, Italy.
· Together with Per Paalsson in Scandinavian Guitar Duo winner of the prestige's chamber music competition arranged by the Danish Radio.
· Winner of Sonning Foundation's special "Segovia Award".
He has been a soloist with Danish Radio Symphony, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra Kielce, Zapolski Quartet, Aarhus Sinfonietta, Randers Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Funen and Athelas Chamber Players.
He has worked with conducters such as Paavo Järvi, Jean Torell, Søren K. Hansen, David Riddell, Pierre-André Valade and Lionel Friend and has played with all the major orchestras in Denmark including and the Royal Danish Opera.
JS has performed several guitar concertos. Significant was his performance of” Invissibel Mirrors" by Karl Aage Rasmussen and Psalmodies by the Grammy nominated composer Poul Ruders.
As a soloist and chamber musician he has premiered and played Danish first performances of works by : Daniel Bortz, Jesper Koch, Bent Lorentzen, Toru Takemitsu, Anette Schlünz, Hans Werner Henze, Anders Koppel, Lars Heegård, Bronius Kutavicius, Poul Ruders, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Anders Brødsgård, Nørholm, Niels Thybo, Per Nørgård, Benjamin de Murashkin, Rasmus Zwicki, Peter Tornquist, Niels Rosing-Schouw, Karl Aage Rasmussen, Ulrik Neumann, Jan Inge Wijk, John Frandsen, Palle Mikkelborg, Christos Farmakis, Ib Nørholm, Dusan Bogdanovic, Atanas Ourkosunov and Vagn Holmboe.
From 1998 to 2008 he was a member of the contemporary ensemble "Ensemble Funen" (The ensemble received Funen County music award 2002-2003 and was for many years house orchestra in the opera of Funen)
From 1994 to 2007 he taught at (The Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark)
